Adaptive Classroom Furniture

The need for adaptive furniture accommodations is approved through an interactive process between the student and a DSS LD Specialist and must be supported by the documentation of the effects of the student’s disability. Examples of adaptive furniture that may be requested include wheelchair-accessible tables, padded and adjustable chairs, and chairs with or without arms.

How to Request Adaptive Classroom Furniture:

  1. Register for classes.
  2. Complete the Request for Table/Chair Accommodation form and indicate exactly what type of furniture you need. This should be done at least two weeks prior to the first day of the semester.
  3. A DSS staff member will email the FC Facilities department and your instructor to ensure the furniture is in the classroom prior to the first day of classes.
  4. Please note: There will be signs labeling each piece of furniture. If there is an issue with another student using the furniture you have requested, or if the furniture is being moved around the room throughout the semester, please ask your instructor for assistance right away. The instructor will generally be able to resolve the issue in the most timely fashion.
